Tornado Watch for Houston and Southeast Texas

EF-1 Tornado Damages Houston Suburb

A tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday for Houston and much of Southeast Texas, including the Houston suburbs and southwestern Louisiana, after an EF-1 tornado struck a Houston suburb early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornado caused damage to homes and businesses in the suburb of Pasadena, and there were reports of downed power lines and trees. No injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service is urging residents to be prepared for possible tornadoes and to take shelter immediately if they see a tornado warning.

The tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for the following counties:

  • Harris
  • Fort Bend
  • Wharton
  • Matagorda
  • Brazoria
  • Galveston
  • Chambers
  • Liberty
  • Polk
  • Tyler
  • Hardin
  • Jefferson
  • Orange
  • Newton
  • Jasper
  • Beauregard
  • Calcasieu
  • Cameron

The National Weather Service is also urging residents to be aware of the potential for flooding, as heavy rains are expected in the region.
